Lecturers’ Classroom Management Competencies And OTM Students’ Employability Skills In Higher Institutions In Rivers State

This study adopted a descriptive survey research on the topic, "lecturers’ classroom management competencies and OTM students’ employability skills in higher institutions in Rivers State." The population was 69 lecturers with a sample of 69, using census sampling technique. Self-developed questionnaire was used with five-point rating scale. The face and contents validity of the instrument were established using the opinions of three experts. The questionnaire was trial-tested using 10 OTM lecturers and data collected were analyzed using Cronbach Alpha which yielded Coefficient values of .87 and 89. Copies of questionnaire were distributed, 65 were correctly filled, retrieved, and used for date analysis. Arithmetic mean and standard deviation were used to analyze data from research questions and spread in respondents’ views. Inferential statistics of Analysis of Variance (One-way ANOVA) and Independent Sample T-test were used to test the two null hypotheses. The analysis was done using Special Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25. A Tukey Post Hoc Test of multiple comparisons was further conducted. Findings of the study revealed that the impact of lecturers’ classroom management and evaluation competencies on OTM students’ employability skills were at great level. Among other things, it was recommended that lecturers should engage in private programmes certification in lecturers` classroom management and evaluation competencies to enable them acquire a very great level of competencies so as to impact on OTM students’ employability skills.References
