The Dynamics Of The Right To Life: A Sine Qua Non To Sustainable Development

Abstract

The life of a person is predetermined by his entirety, be it his physical make-up, activities, relations with other beings etc. A person’s components, whether mental, physical, social, psychological, economical and so on, are closely knitted to his life. Indeed, no life, no man. Consequently, the assurance granted man through the right to life, as guaranteed by the law, be it international, municipal etc, is tantamount to the fact that, the right to life must be duly reversed, by all and sundry. Every nation, race, tribe, gender, institution, organization and the world over, recognize and perhaps, respect this right. However, there cannot be a complete regard to the life of a person, when such person is constantly abused and denied essentials of life, such as food, medical attention, education and necessary freedoms. The right to life is dependent on these essentials and can thus, not be guaranteed without these. This is the purport of this article. It illuminated these dynamics of the right to life. Hence, an espousal on the right to life and its correlation to these dynamics is hereby attempted. A variety of legislations and case laws were considered in this work. The doctrinal method was also utilized in the discourse, for proper illumination of the subject matter. However, this study may neither be conclusive nor replete, but, it may prove to be resourceful, insightful and restorative.
